MANKATO, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (6-1) picked up a 68-55 win at Bethany Lutheran (1-7) on Saturday in Minnesota.
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) posted her second-straight double-double with 16 points and career-best-tying 14 rebounds. She was 7-for-15 shooting from the field and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line to go with eight boards on the offensive glass.
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) added a game-high 26 points. She was 8-of-15 from the field and 8-for-10 from the charity stripe.
Thomson and
Keira Maki (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) each hit a three-pointer as the Pointers built a 17-11 lead after one quarter.
Gawlitta and Thomson combined for 12 points in the second quarter and the UWSP advantage was 35-24 at the half.
The duo scored 20 of the 21 UWSP points in the third quarter as the lead grew to 56-39 heading to the fourth.
Kate Vanden Berg (Appleton, Wis./North) scored UWSP first four points in the fourth quarter.
Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) and
Brenna Gehri (Oshkosh, Wis./West) each made a bucket in the quarter as the Pointers cruised to the win.
The Pointers head to St. Norbert on Saturday (Dec. 14) for a 3:15 p.m. tip-off against the Green Knights.
