DE PERE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (7-1) finished a 4-0 road trip with a 64-46 win at St. Norbert on Saturday.
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West),
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and
Karissa Smith (Freedom, Wis./Appleton North) were all in double figures with 17, 14 and 13 points, respectively. Gawlitta led the Pointers with eight rebounds.
Gawlitta and Thomson each made a layup on UWSP first two possessions for a 4-0 lead.
Ava Loftus (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) hit a three, Smith added four points and
Courtney Krueger (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) contribute three points as UWSP led 18-13 after one.
Thomson and
Keira Maki (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) each made a layup in the second.
Kate Vanden Berg (Appleton, Wis./North) added a free throw as the teams combined for 11 points in the quarter and UWSP was ahead, 23-19, at the break.
Thomson scored UWSP's first six points in the third quarter. Gawlitta scored the next four as UWSP built a 10-point advantage, 33-23.
Lily Truchon (Herbster, Wis./South Shore) had four points and a Thomson three capped the quarter as UWSP led 45-32 heading to the fourth.
Smith buried three three-pointers in the fourth quarter as UWSP held a double-digit lead the remainder of the game.
The Pointers are home on Thursday (Dec. 19) at 12:00 p.m. against Marian. The matinee will be held in Quandt Fieldhouse as the Pointers host Education Day.
