STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (7-0) remained unbeaten by knocking off No. 1 Trine (7-1) by a 65-62 final on Saturday in Quandt Fieldhouse.
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) led a quartet of Pointers in double figures. He scored a career-high 17 points.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and
Darrius Bolden (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) each added 12 points.
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) completed the quartet with 10 points.
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) scored UWSP's first five points for a 5-5 tie five minutes into the game. Butler scored the next five UWSP points for a 10-9 lead. Miron added a three as did Butler and Baumgartner during a 19-2 run as UWSP was up 24-11.
Baumgartner had five more points in the opening stanza and the Pointers were ahead at the break, 33-24.
Krohn had four early points in the second half.
Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) threw down a dunk to give UWSP a 45-39 edge. Bolden drilled a three and had seven points over a five-minute stretch as the Pointers maintained the lead.
Butler and Bolden went a combined 6-for-6 from the free-throw line as the Pointers held the Thunder at bay for the win.
The Pointers remain at home and face the University of Olivet at 7:00 p.m. next Saturday (Dec. 14).
