STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (5-3-1, 2-1-1) earned its first shutout in league play with a 5-0 win over Northland (0-8-0, 0-4-0) on Friday afternoon.
UWSP goaltenders
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) and
Mallory Von Tersch (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) each had eight saves in the shutout win.
Molly Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) got the Pointers on the board at 5:17 of the first period.
Soile Doyle (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) had the lone assist on what would be the eventual game-winning goal.
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron) doubled the UWSP lead at 16:57 of the first period.
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and
Riley Novak (Oakdale, Minn./Tartan) provided assists on the goal.
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) pushed the lead to 3-0 at the 3:32 mark of the second period.
Avery Engbrecht (Winona, Minn./Winona) had the only assist on the goal.
Leising made it 4-0 at 12:09 of the second with
Grace Torma (Centerville, Minn./Centennial) notching an assist on the play.
Molly Millar (Anchorage, Alaska/East) had the lone goal of the third period, scoring on the backhand at the 16:00 mark. Andrle had the assist on the goal.
Northland goaltender Maddy Bliss had 44 saves as the Pointers racked up a season-high 49 shots on goal.
The Pointers close out the three-game homestand on Saturday (Dec. 7) with a 2:00 p.m. non-conference matchup versus MSOE.
