STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (4-3-1, 1-1-1) suffered its first conference loss on Thursday to visiting No. 13 UW-Eau Claire (6-3-0, 3-1-0) by a 6-2 final.
The teams skated to a scoreless tie through one period of play with UWSP goaltender
Anne Beck (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) making all 16 saves of the period.
The Blugolds got on the board at 5:39 of the second period.
At 16:27 of the second period,
Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) tied the game at 1-1. Her tying goal was assisted on by
Josie Bender (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) and
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove). The teams headed to the third period knotted at 1-1.
UWEC scored four times, twice on the power play, in the third period to take a 5-1 with 7:46 remaining.
At 14:00, Leising scored for the Pointers.
Soile Doyle (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) and
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) had assists on the goal.
The Blugolds scored another goal at 18:05 to complete the scoring.
Beck made 47 saves in net for the Pointers. UWEC goaltender Tegan Swanson had eight saves.
The Pointers return to action on Friday (Dec. 6) with a 1:00 p.m. home game against Northland.
