Bolden Nets Career-High as Pointers Fall in Defensive Tussle

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 11 UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (9-1) came up a point short in a 51-50 loss to Randolph-Macon (6-3) in a defensive battle to end the Jay Bilas Classic.

Darrius Bolden (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) led all scorers and posted a career-high 19 points. He was 6-for-12 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) added 13 and was the only other Pointers with more than one made basket. Carter Combs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) snagged a season-best and game-high nine rebounds.

Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) and Miron each made an early bucket for a 4-0 lead. RMC posted the next 10 points before Miron scored again to spark a 6-0 UWSP run.

The Yellow Jackets put up an 11-2 run before Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) hit the first three of the game for the Pointers. Tyshawn Teague-Johnson (Beloit, Wis./Turner) made a layup to start an 8-2 run by UWSP to end the half. Bolden hit a three at the buzzer as UWSP got within 27-25 at the break.

Bolden scored six straight UWSP points midway through the second half as UWSP stayed close at 35-34. Miron hit a three as did Bolden for a 42-38 lead with 6:18 remaining. The duo scored three points each and the Pointers were down 49-48 in the final minute. After an RMC free throw, Bolden tied the game at 50-50 with a late layup. A foul in the final second gave the Yellow Jackets a decisive free throw.

The Pointers return home on Dec. 30 at 7:00 p.m. to host North Park in the final non-conference game of the regular season.
