FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (7-3-1) posted its third-straight shutout with a 3-0 win at Marian (3-6-0) on Tuesday afternoon. The last time UWSP had three-straight shutouts was January 2018.
UWSP goaltender
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) made 32 saves in the shutout win. She had 12 saves in the first period, nine in the second and 11 more in the third.
Soile Doyle (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) got the Pointers on the board at the 10:07 mark of the first period. She skated all the way from the defensive zone and ripped a wrister past the MU goaltender for a 1-0 lead.
At 15:05 of the first period,
Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) put UWSP up 2-0.
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) and
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) were credited with assists on the play.
The teams moved to another sheet of ice after a Zamboni malfunction in the first intermission. In the second period,
Molly Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) pushed the UWPS lead to 3-0 at 14:57.
Alyssa Yokom (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) got an assist on the goal.
Marian goaltender Sydney Magnuson had 31 saves.
The Pointers travel to Minnesota on Friday (Dec. 13) to take on Augsburg. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
