STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (6-0) built a double-digit lead with 7:09 left in the first half and never looked back in a 72-50 win over St. Olaf (1-7).
Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) poured in a season- and game-high 24 points. He added a team-best nine rebounds narrowly missing a double-double in the win.
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) added 17 points, 14 of which were scored in the first half.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) had 11 and
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) added nine.
Miron drilled a three in the opening seconds and Butler added a triple for a 6-2 lead. Abdul-Wahid hit from behind the arc and scored seven as the lead reached 18-10. Miron drained another three and his layup pushed the advantage to double figures.
Abdul-Wahid buried consecutive threes sparking an 11-0 run to finish the first half that he capped with a steal and dunk. The Pointers were up 41-21 at halftime.
Miron and Abdul-Wahid each hit threes early in the second half as the lead ballooned to a game-high 29 with 13:26 remaining. Butler and
Blake Kortz (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) drilled late threes as the lead was never in doubt.
The Pointers remain at home to host Trine on Saturday (Dec. 7) at 3:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to benefit children in need.
