STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 11 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (2-1-0) got a 5-2 win over Bethel (0-3-0) in the UWSP home opener on Friday night.
Late in the first period,
Adam Rajsigl (Windsor, Ont.) scored his first of the season.
Bennett Koupal (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had his first collegiate point with an assist.
Michael Eftimovski (Toronto, Ont.) also assisted on the goal, his first point of the season.
At 8:53 of the second period,
Peyton Hart (Delafield, Wis.) gave UWSP a 2-0 lead.
Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) had an assist, the first of three points on the night.
The Royals got on the board with a power-play goal at 11:29, but UWSP maintained a 2-1 lead after two periods.
Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz.) scored on a breakaway just 41 seconds into the third period to extend the UWSP lead to 3-1.
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.) had an assist on the goal, his third point in as many games to start the season.
Bethel again got within one on the power play at 4:28 of the third.
The Pointers got a power-play goal from
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont.) at 11:43 of the third period for a 4-2 lead.
Ryan Hintz (Rockford, Ill.) notched his first career assist and Sciarrino had his second of the night.
In the final minute of play, Sciarrino scored an empty-net goal to cap the scoring.
Hunter O'Brien (Cambridge, Ont.) got his first collegiate assist and
Matthew Falls (Toronto,Ont.) got his second of the season on the play.
UWSP goaltender
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made 29 saves to earn the win. BU goaltender Austin Ryman made 22 saves.
The Pointers wrap up the home weekend against Saint Mary's on Saturday (Nov. 9). Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena.
