Pointers Score Seven, Three Net First UWSP Goals in Win over SMU

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 11 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (3-1-0) got a 7-4 win over Saint Mary's (1-3-0) to complete the weekend home sweep against MIAC teams.
 
Ryan Hintz (Rockford, Ill.) netted his first career goal on the power play at 8:56 of the first. Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) and Peyton Hart (Delafield, Wis.) had assists on the play.
 
SMU was awarded a goal midway through the first on a controversial no-call and the game was tied after one.
 
Chris Engelbert (Whitby, Ont.) scored his first collegiate goal at 1:41 of the second to put UWSP back in front. Blake Norris (Warroad, Minn.) and Owen Dean (Calgary, Alberta) provided assists on the play.
 
Engelbert scored another go-ahead goal at 12:19 of the second. Nico Chmelevski (Northville, Mich.) and Dena had helpers.
 
Chmelevski extended the lead to 4-2 at the 17:11 mark of the second. Hunter O'Brien (Cambridge, Ont.) and Dena assisted on the goal.
 
SMU again got a controversial goal in the final minute of the second and UWSP's lead was 4-3 heading to the third.
 
Hart scored just 29 seconds into the third period on the power play. Sciarrino and Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont.) had assists.
 
Sciarrino scored a power-play goal at 12:35 of the third with Hintz and Hart picking up assists.
 
Norris scored his first career goal at 14:06 of the third to complete the scoring. Joseph Manning (Stillwater, Minn.) got his first collegiate point with an assist.
 
UWSP goaltender Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made 13 saves. SMU goaltender A.J. Ruskowski had 34 saves.
 
The Pointers travel to St. Norbert on Tuesday (Nov. 12) for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game.
