PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The No. 25 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (19-10, 5-2) was swept in the regular season finale at No. 17 UW-Platteville (24-5, 4-3) on Friday.
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led the Pointers with 12 kills, three blocks and two aces.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) had 22 assists and
Abby Nevins (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had a team-high eight digs.
Kopp and
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) combined for five kills, but UWSP trailed, 18-6. Kopp and Shaw each had another kill as UWSP dropped the opening set, 25-10.
Kopp and
Olivia Paukner (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) had a kill each and combined on a block as the Pointers stayed close early in the second.
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and Michalske each served an ace as UWSP was down 18-16 after a 6-1 run. Shaw had two kills and served an ace for set point, 24-23. But the Pioneers scored the final three points to take the set, 26-24.
Kopp had two kills and consecutive aces as UWSP clawed back to within 6-5.
Katie Larson (Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central) and
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) each had a kill, but UWSP was not able to catch UWP as the hosts took the final set for the sweep, 25-20.
The Pointers will be the No. 2 seed in the WIAC Tournament next week and host a semifinal match on Thursday (Nov. 14). First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in Berg Gym.
