Kopp Surpasses 500 Kills for Fourth-Straight Season as Pointers Fall in WIAC Semis

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (19-11) fell in straight-sets (25-21, 25-22, 28-26) to No. 7 UW-Whitewater (25-3) in the WIAC Tournament semifinals (presented by Culver's).
 
Senior Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) surpassed the 500-kill plateau for the fourth-straight season as she posted a game-high 16 kills.
 
Fellow senior Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) had a match-best 41 assists. Freshman Abby Nevins (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led the Pointers with a game-high 13 digs.
 
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego), Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada), Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) and Kopp combined for five kills and a Michalske ace gave UWSP a 6-2 advantage early. Shaw added two more kills as UWSP held a slim 9-8 edge. Kopp had four late kills, but UWW took the opening set.
 
Kopp had three early kills and an ace as UWSP battled back to within 8-7. Katie Larson (Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central) and Mosinski combined for six kills as stayed close at 20-18. Kopp added a late kill, but the Warhawks went up 2-0.
 
Thomka, Kopp and Shaw each had an early kill as UWSP went up 7-4 in the third. Kopp and Shaw had two kills each as the teams traded the lead. Kopp and Thomka each had an ace as UWSP took a 22-19 lead. Shaw, Mosinski and Kopp each had a kill, but UWW prevailed with a 28-26 win to complete the sweep.
 
The Pointers will await the final NPI rankings and the remainder of the DIII conference tournaments to see their postseason fate at Monday's (Nov. 18) NCAA Selection Show.
