STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (5-0) remained unbeaten with a 77-52 win over visiting Northland (0-5) on Tuesday.
The Pointers had five players in double figures.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) had 15,
Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) added 14,
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) with 13,
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) scored 12 and
Darrius Bolden (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) poured in 11. Abdul-Wahid, Bolden and Krohn all had a team-best eight rebounds.
Abdul-Wahid and Butler each hit an early three for a 6-2 lead. Krohn scored six-straight points and UWSP held a 14-12 advantage. Baumgartner nailed a three amid a 9-0 run for a 21-12 lead.
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) had a late three and the Pointers were up 36-28 at the break.
Bolden opened the second half with a three to push the lead into double figures. NC closed the gap to four points with 13:53 to go before a Baumgartner layup sparked a big run. Abdul-Wahid had five points in the 13-0 run as UWSP seized control at 56-39.
Butler went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line down the stretch as UWSP pulled away.
Dylan Taylor (Oshkosh, Wis./West) scored his first collegiate points with a layup in the final minute.
The Pointers remain at home on Sunday (Dec. 1) with a 3:00 p.m. tip-off against St. Olaf.
