MADISON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (3-0) remained undefeated with a 71-56 road win at Edgewood (1-1) on Saturday.
Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central),
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) and
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) all contributed double-figures scoring with 16, 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Darrius Bolden (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) added nine points and had a team-best eight rebounds.
Abdul-Wahid completed an and-one and Krohn hit a jumper for a 5-0 lead early.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and Miron scored on consecutive possessions for a 15-11 lead. Bolden pushed the lead to eight midway through the half with a layup.
Butler halted an 11-0 run by Edgewood completing an and-one for a 22-22 tie. Back-to-back threes by Bolden and Miron in the final minute gave UWSP a 32-29 advantage at the half.
Miron scored four-straight as UWSP used an 8-0 run to take a 40-32 lead. Krohn added seven points and an and-one by Abdul-Wahid pushed the advantage to double digits at 51-40. The Pointers hit 6-of-6 free throws down the stretch and maintained a double-digit lead until the final buzzer.
UWSP will travel to Minnesota on Friday (Nov. 22) to take on North Central. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in Minneapolis.
