WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (1-1) saw its non-conference win streak snapped by No. 24 DePauw (1-1) by a 69-47 final at the UWW Tip-Off Tournament.
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) had a team-high 10 points.
Karissa Smith (Freedom, Wis./Appleton North) added seven points and was named to the all-tournament team.
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) made two field goals and
Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) hit a late three, but UWSP was down 18-10 after one.
Courtney Krueger (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) got the first points of the second on a jumper. Smith hit from behind the arc and
Keira Maki (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) added four points.
Maddie Murphy (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas) buried a three in the final minute, but UWSP trailed 37-24 at the break.
Smith snapped a three-and-a-half-minute drought with a bucket. Murphy drilled another three and Thomson had four late points as the deficit was 56-35 heading to the fourth.
Thomson completed an and-one early in the fourth.
Ava Loftus (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) and
Kate Vanden Berg (Appleton, Wis./North) each made a field goal as UWSP was unable to close the gap.
The Pointers host St. Scholastica on Friday (Nov. 15) in the home opener. Tip-off in Berg Gym is set for 7:00 p.m.
