DUBUQUE, Iowa. – The No. 6 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (0-1-0) fell into an early hole and were unable to dig out in a 7-2 loss to Aurora (1-0-0) in the season opener at the Key City Collegiate Classic on Friday afternoon.
The Spartans broke onto the scoreboard at 12:30 of the first period. Another goal by Aurora put UWSP behind 2-0 after one period of play.
Aurora scored four more times in the second period as UWSP trailed 6-0 late in the second.
Peyton Hart (Delafield, Wis.) scored his first as a Pointer on the power play with 1.6 seconds remaining in the second.
Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) had an assist on the play.
At the 2:30 mark of the third period,
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.) scored off helpers from
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont.) and
Nico Chmelevski (Northville, Mich.).
Aurora scored a power-play goal in the final minute of play to conclude the scoring.
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) played just 22:07 and had nine saves.
Ryan Maguire (Ridgefield, Conn.) played the final 37:53 and made 10 saves. Aurora goaltender Jacob Mucitelli had 33 saves.
The Pointers will play in the Key City Collegiate Classic consolation game on Saturday (Nov. 2) at 3:00 p.m. against either Augsburg or host Dubuque.
