MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (4-4-4, 1-0-0) earned a 1-0 win in the conference opener on Saturday at UW-Stout (0-7-2, 0-2-0).

Although the Pointers controlled much of the first-half play out-shooting the Blue Devils, 10-2, the game was knotted 0-0 at the break.

In the 57th minute,
Madison Culli (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) was tripped in the box resulting in a penalty kick awarded to the Pointers. Senior
Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch) stepped to the spot and fired the shot into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead, the eventual game-winner.

UWSP's defense was stellar all match and goalkeeper
Erika Panella (Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine) needed just two saves for the clean sheet and the victory.

Stout goalkeeper Kristen Silenzi made eight saves. Dunn led the Pointers with seven shots on target.

The Pointers return home to take on UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday (Oct. 9). First kick at the UWSP Turf Facility is set for 7:30 p.m.
