RIVER FALLS, Wis. – It took a late rally in the third set, but the UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (18-9, 5-1) finished off a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-23) sweep at UW-River Falls (11-19, 1-5) on Wednesday.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) had a match-high 32 assists.
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led all players with 15 kills. Freshman Abby Nevin had 12 digs, a match-high.
Zoe Kramer (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) had a season-high eight kills.
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) also had eight kills. Both joined Kopp in surpassing the UWRF team high.
Kopp had kills for UWSP's first wo points of the match. Kramer had two kills and Thomka had a pair of blocks as UWSP took an 8-6 lead.
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) and Michalske combined on a block sparking an 11-0 run as UWSP seize control of the set.
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) sealed the win with a kill.
Shaw, Kopp and Thomka had two kills each as UWSP got ahead 11-8 to begin the second.
Katie Larson (Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central) served three-consecutive aces as the Pointers went up 17-11. Kramer had two late kills as UWSP took a 2-0 lead.
Shaw had a kill and an ace, but the Pointers were down, 12-9, early in the third. Kopp and Nevins each served an ace as UWSP got even at 17-17. Shaw added a pair of kills, but UWSP trailed 22-19 late. Kopp posted a pair of kills as the Pointers finished the set and the match with a 6-1 run.
The Pointers will host Chicago on Saturday (Nov. 2) for Senior Day. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
