WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (1-5, 0-3) was shut out for the second-straight conference game, falling to No. 19/22 UW-Whitewater (4-2, 2-1, by a 66-0 final.
UWSP's offense was limited to just 124 yards of total offense. Quarterback
Zay Segner (Freeport, Ill./Freeport) had eight rushes for a team-high 43 yards.
The Pointers got seven first downs and into UWW territory once. UWW piled up 619 yards of total offense.
Jack Luedtke (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) led UWSP with 11 tackles.
The Warhawks returned the opening kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown setting the tone for the remainder of the game. After a UWSP turnover, UWW quickly made it 14-0.
Late in the first quarter, the Pointers gained their first first down of the game. But a penalty wiped out any momentum and UWSP trailed 21-0 after one quarter of play.
The Pointers were held without a first down in the second quarter as the Warhawks deepened the UWSP hole to 45-0 at the half.
Midway through the third quarter, the Pointers had their most promising drive. Segner gained 24 yard on four rushes to gain a pair of first downs. A pass interference penalty on UWW allowed the Pointers into visiting territory for the first time.
Brycen Cashin (Plover, Wis./Pacelli) gained seven yards got UWSP into the red zone with Segner adding an 11-yard gain. Another turnover dealt the Pointers a blow in their attempt to get on the board.
The Warhawks added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
The Pointers return home to take on UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 26. Kickoff at Goerke Park is slated for 1:00 p.m.
