STEVENS POINT, Wis. – A day after teammate
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) reached the 4,000-assist milestone, fellow senior
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) became just the third player in WIAC history with 2,000 career kills. She posted a double-double as the UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (14-6) defeated Wheaton (10-10) in four sets (25-16, 16-25, 25-23, 26-24) to conclude the Papa John's Invite.
Kopp led all players with 22 kills and hit .400 in the match. She added 11 digs for her 11th double-double of the season.
Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) had a game-high 26 digs.
Emily Nielsen (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) was also in double figures with 12 digs. Michalske had a team-high 44 assists.
Kopp had four kills and Michalske served a pair of aces as UWSP jumped ahead 10-2 in the first.
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) added four kills and UWSP took the opening set.
Kopp had two kills and a block early, but UWSP trailed in the second, 11-6. Kopp added three more kills, but Wheaton evened the match at a set apiece.
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) and Kopp had two kills each early as UWSP built a 9-6 lead in the third. Kopp and
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) combined for five kills as the Pointers held a 19-17 advantage. Abby Nevin served up an ace and Kopp posted two kills to secure the third set.
Ella Trieloff (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Viator) began the fourth set with an ace. Shaw had three kills and UWSP led, 11-9. Kopp and Mosinski had a pair of kills each, but UWSP couldn't shake Wheaton. Kopp recorded her milestone kill for a 20-19 lead. Two more kills by Kopp set up match point. After the Thunder clawed back for a 24-24 tie, Shaw posted a kill and Trieloff ended the match with a block.
The Pointers travel to UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (Oct. 16) for a 7:00 p.m. match.
