WHITEWATER, Wis. –
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led all players in kills as the UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (15-6, 4-0) rallied for a five-set win at No. 5 UW-Whitewater (16-3, 2-2) on Wednesday night.
Kopp recorded her 12th double-double of the season with a match-high 24 kills. She added 12 digs, three assists and an ace.
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) and
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) were also in double figures with 14 and 10 kills, respectively.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) led the Pointers with 44 assists.
Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) tied for the match-high with 17 digs.
Kopp and Thomka recorded consecutive kills as the Pointers began on top, 3-0.
Katie Larson (Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central) had a kill and a block as UWSP took a 10-2 lead. Shaw added a pair of kills as UWW tightened the score to 13-8. Kopp and Thomka combined for five kills down the stretch as UWSP took the opening set, 25-19.
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) had the first kill of the second set for UWSP. Shaw and Kopp had three kills each, but UWW evened the match with a 25-11 win in set two.
Kopp had two early kills and a Thomka ace helped UWSP take a 7-6 edge in the third. Larson served an ace as the Pointers stayed close at 17-16. Kopp had another kill late, but UWW took the third set, 25-22.
Kopp again had two early kills in the fourth. Mosinski had a kill and a block to tie the set at 7-7. Shaw had back-to-back kills to begin a 5-0 run as UWSP started to dig out of an 18-11 hole.
Ella Trieloff (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Viator) served an ace as UWSP tied the set at 19-19. Kopp posted two kills to tie the set at 23-23. Thomka and Shaw finished the 25-23 set win with consecutive kills.
Michalske and Mosinski combined for a block as UWSP trailed 7-6 in the fifth. Erlandson served an ace to tie the set at 8-8. Thomka and Kopp had two kill each as UWSP went in front, 12-10. Mosinski had another block and capped the win with a kill, 15-11.
The Pointers remain on the road to face Illinois Wesleyan on Friday (Oct. 18). First serve in Bloomington is set for 6:00 p.m.
