STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (11-9, 5-4) completed the season sweep over UW-Stout (9-11, 4-5) with an 82-63 win on Wednesday.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) led all scorers with 20 points.
Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) added 19.
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) had 13 points and narrowly missed a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds.
Ryan Genrich (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) rounded out the quartet of double-figure scorers for UWSP with 10.
Krohn had five early points as UWSP went ahead 9-7. A three by
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) and a layup by
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) capped a 10-0 UWSP run for a 16-7 lead. A 6-0 run by Stout made it a 16-13 UWSP advantage midway through the first half.
Genrich and Abdul-Wahid had buckets on back-to-back possessions. Butler then took over with a 7-0 personal run to push the advantage to double digits at 27-15. Genrich hit a pair of threes in a spurt of eight-straight UWSP points and the Pointers led 38-25 at the half.
Miron buried a three to end a 6-0 Stout run to begin the second half pushing the lead back to double digits where it remained the rest of the game. Butler and Baumgartner combined for three-straight three-pointers on consecutive possessions as the lead hit 18 at 60-42.
Abdul-Wahid threw down a dunk and completed the and-one with 7:22 to go. He added six more points down the stretch as the lead ballooned to 22.
The Pointers will host UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Feb. 3). Tip-off is slated for 5:00 p.m. at Quandt Fieldhouse.
