OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (14-4, 2-4) fell at No. 21 UW-Oshkosh (14-3, 5-1) by a 67-37 final on Saturday.
Kelly McIntyre (Waukesha, Wis./North) was the lone Pointers in double figures with 11 points.
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) added six points.
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) led the Pointers with five rebounds.
Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) gave the Pointers a 2-0 lead with a layup three-and-a half minutes into the game. McIntyre's first bucket of the game halted a 5-0 run by UWO to keep the Pointers within 7-5. McIntyre added four more points and UWSP was down just 21-9 after one.
Thomson pulled the Pointers within one early in the second. Pfeifer made a layup and McIntyre had one of her own. But by the time Thomson made a buzzer beater, the Pointers trailed 32-18 at the half.
Courtney Krueger (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) had a layup and McIntyre buried a three for a 5-0 burst by the Pointers in the third.
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) hit a jumper, but the deficit was 50-25 heading to the fourth.
Rachel Hagen (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) had UWSP's first four points of the fourth quarter. Krueger drilled a three with Thomson and
Ava Loftus (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) adding layups in the quarter.
The Pointers will return home to face UW-Platteville to close out the first half of league play. Tip-off in Berg Gym is set for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 24).
