EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (8-7, 2-2) lost a halftime lead in an 82-73 defeat at UW-Eau Claire (8-7, 1-3) on Saturday.
Darrius Bolden (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) led a quartet of Pointers in double figures with 17 points.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) added 12 apiece.
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) had 10 points. Bolden also led the Pointers with seven rebounds.
Bolden and Miron scored on consecutive possessions as the Pointers jumped ahead 4-0.
Ryan Genrich (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) buried a three to halt a 7-0 UWEC run. Krohn completed an and-one to tie things at 10-all.
Just past the midpoint of the first half, Genrich hit again from behind the arc. Butler added a three to keep UWSP close at 23-22.
Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) had four points late, including a layup at the buzzer as the Pointers led 29-27 at the half.
Krohn had five early points, including an and-one, as UWSP went up 35-31 three minutes into the second half. The Blugolds took the lead with a 6-0 run and Miron added four to tie the game at 39-39.
Jake Buchanan (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) hit a three to end an 11-2 run by UWEC.
Miron hit a triple after the Pointers' deficit reached double figures, sparking a 12-0 run as UWSP regained the lead at 62-61. The Blugolds followed with a 14-1 run taking a double-digit lead to the final minute of play. Bolden hit a pair of threes and had 10 points over the final 37 seconds to no avail.
UWSP will begin a two-game homestand on Wednesday (Jan. 17) with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off against UW-River Falls.
