RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (4-11-0, 1-4-0) scored goals 14 seconds apart in a 6-2 defeat at No. 1 UW-River Falls (17-0-0, 5-0-0). Freshman goaltender
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) recorded a school-record 59 saves in the game.
The Falcons scored first, at the 4:19 mark of the first period, to take the early lead. UWRF added a power-play goal at 16:51 of the first as UWSP trailed 2-0 after one.
The deficit for UWSP was 3-0 at 2:06 of the second period.
The Pointers broke through at the 9:13 mark of the second period.
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron) scored her first of the season, an unassisted tally.
Just 14 seconds later, the Pointers pulled to within 3-2 on a goal by
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine).
Kayla Stumo (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) posted her first assist of the season on the goal at 9:27.
UWRF added a goal 12 seconds later to put the Pointers behind by two goals. The Falcons added two more goals in the third period, the last on the power play.
UWRF goaltender Jordan O'Kane made 11 saves in the win.
The Pointers return home for the first time in 2024 on Tuesday (Jan. 16) against Marian. Puck drop at K.B. Willett Arena is set for 7:15 p.m.
