STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (5-11-0) had a season high in shots and goals in a 7-4 win over Marian (6-11-1) in the Pointers' first home game of 2024.
The Pointers fired a season-high 64 shots on goal, the third-highest single game in program history. The seven goals scored was a season-high as well.
Marian opened the scoring at 10:49 of the first period with a power-play goal. Less than two minutes later, UWSP pulled even.
Laina Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) scored her first goal of the season at 12:36 off an assist from
Amanda Pouchnik (Viola, Idaho/Moscow).
Fifty-four seconds later,
Sara Aadalen (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) gave the Pointers the lead.
Alyssa Yokom (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) and
Kayla Stumo (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) had helpers on the play.
The Sabres scored on the power play just 47 seconds into the second period. At the 4:08 mark, MU took a 3-2 lead.
Josie Bender (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) tied the game at 3-3 at 4:42 of the second.
Molly Millar (Anchorage, Alaska/East) notched an assist on the goal.
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) gave the Pointers the lead at 10:53 in the second. Berthiaume racked up her second point of the night with an assist.
Marian scored at 14:08 of the second to tie the game at 4-4 heading the third period.
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) gave the Pointers the lead again at 1:31 of the third period, the eventual game-winner. Yokom and
Tara Rigan (Lindenhurst, Ill./Lakes Community) had assists, the first career point for Rigan.
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron) extended the lead at 11:52 of the third. She tipped in a shot from Stumo and Aadalen also had an assist.
At 13:59 of the third, Leising grabbed a turnover just outside the Pointers blue line. She skated in a few strides and wristed a shot into the net for an unassisted tally.

Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) had 31 saves in the win. MU goaltender Abby Edstrom had 57 saves.
The Pointers travel to UW-Eau Claire to begin the three-game season with the Blugolds on Friday (Jan. 19). Puck drop in Eau Claire is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
