STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (0-2-0) fell to visiting College of Saint Benedict on Sunday, 2-1, at Point Soccer Bowl.
Hot and humid conditions prompted the match to be moved up, but conditions were still rugged throughout the match.
The visiting Bennies got on the board in the 35th minute of play and led by the 1-0 score at the break.
CSB doubled its lead in the 84th minute on a long free kick into the upper corner.
In the 86th minute, UWSP finally broke through.
Cass Klitzke (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) served a ball over the top and
Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch) beat the goalkeeper to the pass. Dunn fired a shot from just outside the 18 to net UWSP's first goal of the season.
Although CSB outshot UWSP overall, 26-7, the shots on goal were fairly even with the Bennies posting seven to the Pointers five. Dunn led the way for UWSP with two shots on target.
Savannah Reed (Waukegan, Ill./St. Joseph Catholic Academy) again was UWSP's goalkeeper. She made five saves. CSB goalkeeper Annie Waters had four saves.
The Pointers travel to Dubuque on Wednesday (Sept. 6) for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference match against eh Spartans.
