Women’s Golf Moves Up to Fourth to Finish Opening Weekend

PRESCOTT, Wis. – A day two push from the UW-Stevens Point women's golf team allowed the Pointers to finish tied for fourth posting an improved 356 on the day. The team cut 19 strokes off of their round one score to finish tied with host UW-River Falls.

Location: Clifton Highlands Golf Club, Prescott, Wis.
UWSP: T-4th out of 9
Top UWSP Individual: Kate Downie (Hortonville, WIs./Hortonville) remained the top Pointers' golfer. She managed to cut one stroke off her Saturday round to reach the outskirts of the top 10, finishing tied for 11th.
Notables: Rae Barwick (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) mustered a stellar round two as she shaved 13 strokes from her first-round total, shooting an 84 (+12) and slotting into the top 25, tied for 22nd. Senior Jenny Marshall (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) improved her round one total by cutting off four strokes, shooting a 91 (+19) on the day to finish 27th. Andrea Tietz (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) also cut down four strokes to wrap up the invite shooting a 92 (+20) to finish tied for 28th.

Tournament Highlights
Top Team: UW-Stout stood firm, winning the invite despite adding 11 more strokes to their day two finish of 335, to edge conference opponent UW-La Crosse by two strokes. They finished with three golfers in the top 10.
Top Individual: Abbey Filipiak of UW-Stout jumped teammate Sydney Grimm to win the tournament as she cut two shots off her score from Saturday's action to finish with 156 (+12) strokes.

Up next: The Pointers will travel south to tee off at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic on Saturday (Sept. 9).
