STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 20 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (12-2) finished an undefeated week with two sweeps at the Pointers Invitational on Saturday. UWSP downed Aurora (8-8) and Simpson (4-12) by 3-0 scores, making it four-straight home sweeps to begin the season.
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led all players in kills with 16 and 10 on the day, the only player in either match in double figures.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) also posted match-highs in assists in both games with 31 and 28.
Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) led UWSP and all players with 17 digs in each match.
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) added 11 digs against Aurora.
Kopp, Michalske and
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) earned all-tournament team honors.
UWSP 3, Aurora 0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-21)
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had four kills and an ace as the teams battled to a 13-13 score in the first set. Kopp added a pair of kills down the stretch as multiple AU attack errors boosted the Pointers to a first-set win.
Zoe Kramer (Batavia, Ill./Batavia), Kopp and Thomka had two kills each early as the teams again stayed tight in a 10-10 second set. Kopp had six kills in a pair of 6-0 runs as UWSP moved ahead 22-14 late. Kramer and Shaw had consecutive kills to close out the set victory.
Thomka and Kopp had three kills each to begin the third set. Trailing 20-16, Mosinski sparked a big run with a kill. Kopp added two kills as UWSP finished on a 9-1 burst to finish the sweep.
UWSP 3, Simpson 0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-18)
Ryleigh Zeller (Muskego, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) served two aces with Kopp and Thomka adding two kills each as UWSP took a 9-2 lead. Michalske and Mosinski combined on consecutive blocks as UWSP led 14-6. Mosinski added two late kills as the Pointers easily took the first set.

Ella Trieloff (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Viator) and Mosinski had back-to-back blocks as UWSP jumped ahead 14-4 in the second. Thomka and
Olivia Paukner (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) had two kills each late as UWSP survived a late threat from Simpson to go ahead 2-0.
Thomka had two kills early in the third. Kopp and Mosinski added two each as a 7-1 run gave the Pointers an 18-9 lead. After the Storm got within 22-18 late,
Erin Gillen (Richfield, Wis./Slinger) finished the 3-0 spurt to win the match with an ace.
The Pointers head to UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday (Sept. 26) for a 7:00 p.m. conference match. All fans will be admitted free at the match as UWSP and UWO will attempt to break the DIII attendance record.
