ABILENE, Texas – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (1-5-0) was shut out by a 5-0 final at Hardin-Simmons (6-0-1) to begin a weekend of matches in Texas.
The Pointers fell behind just 90 seconds into the match on the first shot attempt by either team. UWSP goaltender
Jessica Nigbur (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) stopped two shots before the Cowgirls doubled the lead in the 19th minute.
HSU kept rifling shots at Nigbur as she posted four more saves before the deficit reached 3-0 in the 27th minute. The Cowgirls added another goal in the 34th minute as UWSP sat in a 4-0 hole at the half.
The Cowgirls made it 5-0 in the 53rd minute of play. In the 81st minute, HSU was awarded a penalty kick and Nigbur made the save.
Jessica Camarato (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area) led the Pointers with two shots on goal.
Nora Lee (Holmen, Wis./Holmen) and
Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch) each had one as a trio of HSU goalkeepers totalled four saves in the shutout.
The Pointers will play at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday (Sept. 23) at 7:00 p.m. to conclude the weekend in the Lone Star State.
