WAUKESHA, Wis. – Sophomore
Cass Klitzke (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) scored her second goal in as many matches as the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (1-4-0) fell at Carroll (5-3-0) by a 3-1 final to begin a three-match road trip.
The host Pioneers opened the scoring in the eighth minute of play on Carroll's second shot on goal of the match. UWSP's deficit grew to 2-0 as Carroll scored again in the 25th minute.
UWSP nearly pulled even in the 10th minute as
Gabby Dunn's (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch) shot rang off the cross bar. Then just 17 seconds before the half, Klitzke got UWSP on the board.
Madison Culli (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) and
Jessica Camarato (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area) assisted on the goal, their first points of the season.
Carroll pushed the deficit back to two goals in the 63rd minute to conclude the scoring.
Jessica Nigbur (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) made her Pointers' debut in net and made two saves in the first half.
Savannah Reed (Waukegan, Ill./St. Joseph Catholic Academy) made four saves in the second half. Carroll goalkeeper Caitlin Fitzsimmons was not credited with a save as Klitzke's goal was UWSP's only shot on goal.
The Pointers continue the road trip with two matches in Texas this weekend beginning on Friday (Sept. 22) at 7:00 p.m. at Hardin-Simmons University.
