STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 20 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (9-2, 1-0) swept visiting UW-River Falls (8-4, 0-1), 3-0 (28-26-, 25-23, 25-19) to win the home and league opener on Wednesday night.
Junior
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) posted a match-high 20 kills and her eighth double-double of the season to lead the Pointers. Her 12 digs were also a team high.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) led all players with 33 assists in the match.
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) had a match-high seven blocks and added 11 kills.
Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) was in double digits with 10 digs.
Mosinski had a block and a kill as UWSP opened with a 3-0 lead. Kopp buried three-straight kills in a 4-0 run for an 8-5 advantage.
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) had two kills as the Pointers battled from a deficit at 17-14. Kopp and Shaw took over offensively combining for nine kills down the stretch as averted a set point and gritted out the 28-26 win to take the first set.
Kopp and Mosinski had two kills each as the second set began with UWSP in front 10-5. Mosinski had a pair of blocks to sandwich a 4-0 run as UWSP doubled up UWRF, 14-7.
Olivia Paukner (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) served an ace and Mosinski had three more kills as the Pointers took a 2-0 lead.
Shaw, Michalske and Paukner each had an ace as UWSP forged into the lead, 8-7, in the third. Mosinski and Shaw added two kills each in a 6-1 burst to grow the lead to 14-9. Kopp had four kills and Mosinski added two as the Pointers finished strong to complete the sweep.
The Pointers remain at home to host the Pointers Invitational beginning on Friday (Sept. 22) at 3:00 p.m. UWSP will face North Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in Berg Gym.
