MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team defeated UW-Stout in the conference opener on Friday, 8-1, as the Pointers improved to 4-0 on the season.
Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) and
Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) needed a tiebreak to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-7 (8). Scharf also needed a tiebreak at No. 2 singles. She took the first set, 7-6 (7), before taking the match with a 6-4 final in set two. Jantz cruised to the win at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Quinlyn Mack (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) and
Kyra Hagen (Union Grove, Wis./Union Grove) won at No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
Brooklynn Steier (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) and
Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) also won, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles. Leithold took No. 3 singles by a 6-3, 6-2 final.
Steier win at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
Riley Brower (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) rolled to the win at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-1. Hagen won the first set, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. After dropping the second set, she came up just short in the super-breaker, 10-5.
The Pointers will head to Whitewater next week for the ITA Regionals beginning on Friday (Sept. 22).
