Reed’s Debut in Goal Spoiled by SCU in Second Half

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Junior Savannah Reed (Waukegan, Ill./St. Joseph Catholic Academy) made her debut in net for the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (0-1-0) as the Pointers opened the season with a 2-0 defeat at St. Catherine (1-0-0) on Friday.

Reed made six saves in her collegiate debut and held a clean sheet until the 71st minute. Two minutes later, she faced a penalty kick. She played all 90 minutes.

Neither team recorded a shot on goal in the first half. St. Catherine got the first shot on goal in the 62nd minute with Reed making her first career save.

Reed made four more saves before the Wildcats were able to break the scoreless tie in the 71st minute. Two minutes later, SCU was awarded a penalty kick and were able to get the PK past Reed even though she guessed the right side.

Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch) got UWSP's first shot on goal in the 72nd minute forcing SCU goaltender Kate Praetz to make her first save. In the 90th minute, Madison Culli (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) fired the second UWSP shot on goal to no avail.

The Pointers return home to face Saint Benedict on Sunday (Sept. 3) in the home opener. Kick off has been moved up to 10:00 a.m.
