MADISON, Wis. – Nine members of the UW-Stevens Point baseball team were selected to the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) teams announced on Wednesday (May 17).
Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander),
Nick Paulsen (Balsam Lake, Wis./Unity),
Casey Pickering (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and
JD Schultz (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) received first-team honors.
Jakob Boos (Littleton, Colo./Heritage),
Brenden Canterbury (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca),
Sidney Ferry (Paw Paw, Mich./Homeschooled),
Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and
Mason Weckler (Belvidere, Ill./North) landed on the honorable mention team.
Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship team.

Comer is named to his third-straight all-conference first team. He led the Pointers in hitting with a .366 average while starting all 40 games. His 60 hits and 43 RBI are also team bests. He belted seven home runs and 11 doubles, both second on the team. Comer has posted 19 multi-hit games this season, including a season-best four-hit performance at St. Norbert on April 12. He has 12 multi-RBI games, including a season-high five RBI against Roger Williams and again versus UW-Stout.
Paulsen earns his first league honor after posting the best numbers of any WIAC pitcher this season during conference play. He went 6-0 with five of those wins coming against league foes. He had the lowest earned run average in league play of any pitcher at 1.79. His overall ERA was only slightly higher at 2.12. For the year, Paulsen struck out 48 while walking just 13. In 51.0 innings of work, opposing batters hit just .237. In conference games, Paulsen had a 37-to-9 strikeouts-to-walks ratio. He had a season-high 11 strikeouts in a complete game shutout of UW-Stout.
Pickering grabs his second-straight first team selection and third all-conference nod. He made a team-high 10 starts and went 6-2 with a 4.40 ERA. He led the team with 59.1 innings pitched with 44 strikeouts. Pickering has 6.0 or more innings in eight of his 10 starts and had multiple strikeouts in all 10. He struck out a season-high seven in a win over Southern Maine. Four of Pickering's wins came against conference opponents.
Schultz picks up his initial first-team honor after an honorable mention selection in 2021. He went 4-1 with a 1.91 earned run average on the season in eight starts. He struck out 44 in 42.1 innings of work. Three of his wins came in conference play with a 2.14 ERA in league games, second only to Paulsen. Schultz had a season-high nine strikeouts in back-to-back league starts against UW-Stout and UW-Eau Claire.
Boos snags his first career league award. He started all 39 games he played in this season. He hit .297 with a team-high 12 doubles on the year. He was tied for second on the team with 38 runs scored. Boos hit three home runs and drove in 29 with a team-best 29 walks drawn. He had 12 multi-hit games on the year and seven multi-RBI games, including a season-high five RBI in game one at UW-Eau Claire.
Canterbury garners his first career league award as well. He started 34 games and played in 35 this season. He hit .319 with 44 hits, both third on the team. Canterbury hit five home runs, seven doubles and drove in 23 while scoring 32 runs. He had 14 multi-hits games, including a career-best four hits at UW-Eau Claire. He drove in multiple runs seven times, including a four-RBI game with two home runs against UW-Stout.
Ferry lands his third-straight league honor after back-to-back first-team nods in 2021 and 2022. He made a team-high 18 appearances, all in relief, and led the WIAC with seven saves. He became the program's all-time leader in saves this season and had 22 career saves in just three seasons. He struck out 21 batters in 20.1 innings of work with a 2-1 record. He had six outings this year with multiple strikeouts.
Tomczak gets his second-straight honorable mention selection from the league. He hit .307 in 36 starts while playing in 38 games on the season. He hit three home runs and seven doubles among hit 42 hits. He drew 23 bases on balls, second on the team to Boos. Tomczak drove in 34 runs, third on the team, and scored 25 runs. He had 13 multi-hit games, including a season-best 4-for-4 game at UW-Platteville. He drove in multiple runs on nine occasions with a season-high four RBI against Southern Maine.
Weckler pockets his first league honor after a solid freshman campaign. He went 4-1 in eight starts with 11 appearances on the year. He was second on the team with 45 strikeouts in 53 innings and had a 3.91 ERA on the season. Weckler had a season-high six strikeouts three times, including twice against league foes. He earned the save in his first collegiate outing against St. Scholastica.
Oliver was named the All-Sportsmanship team after playing in 28 games. He started 21 games and his seven home runs are tied for second on the team. He had six multi-hit games, including a four-hit, five RBI, two home run game against UW-Stout. He hit .271 on the year with 23 hits and 23 RBI.
The No. 15 Pointers will host the NCAA Tournament Regional round beginning Friday (May 19) at Zimmermann Field. UWSP will take on No. 17 Augustana in the opening game at 10:00 a.m. before Webster and Loras play game two at 1:30 p.m.
