APPLETON, Wis. – The No. 23 UW-Stevens Point baseball team (21-9) slugged three home runs and drew double-digit walks for the second time in three games in an 11-6 win at Lawrence (10-20) on Thursday.
Logan Homolka (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield),
Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis./West) and
Trent Van Ess (Two Rivers, Wis./Two Rivers) each hit a home run and drove in two runs.
Brenden Canterbury (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) had three hits, all singles, with a run scored.
Logan Matson (Neillsville, Wis./Neillsville) singled to start the third inning and moved to second on a passed ball. Jacob Boos drew a walk and both runners stole a base. An LU error on what should have been an RBI groundout put UWSP ahead, 1-0.
Canterbury hit a two-out single in the fourth. Matson followed with a walk. Boos singled to push home a run. A wild pitch plated another for a 3-0 lead.
Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) singled to begin the fifth. He moved to second on a balk. Back-to-back wild pitches send Comer home to make it 4-0.
Matson, Boos and Nelson drew consecutive walks to start the sixth.
Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) Singled to push home a run. Consecutive wild pitches plated another run as UWSP took a 6-1 lead.
Homolka homered to lead off the seventh. Nelson homered to begin the eighth.
Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) hit a two-out single. Homolka ripped a triple to drive in a run. Van Ess followed with a two-run home run to give UWSP an 11-2 lead.
The Viking scored once in the eighth and three times in the ninth to complete the scoring.
Jacob Meinholz (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) struck out five in the start. He went 3.2 innings.
Nathan Krommenakker (Rudolph, Wis./Lincoln) fanned two in 2.2 innings.
Tyler Beyer (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln),
Bryce Ehr (Plover, Wis./SPASH) and
Sidney Ferry (Paw Paw, Mich./Homeschooled) had one strikeout each in relief.
The Pointers travel to UW-Eau Claire for a weekend series beginning on Saturday (April 29) at 12:00 p.m.
