Tkach, Zygowski Team Up For Pair of Gems in Sweep for the Pointers

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Freshman Ashley Zygowski (Saukville, Wis./Port Washington) and senior Makenna Tkach (Streator, Ill./Marquette Academy) combined on a pair of gems in the circle as the UW-Stevens Point softball team (8-4) picked up two wins on Tuesday. UWSP held Elmhurst (4-1) to two hits in a 2-0 victory to start the day. The duo allowed just three hits in a 4-1 win over Kalamazoo (6-6) to finish the day.

Zygowski took a no-hitter into the fifth against Elmhurst only to allow a leadoff hit in the frame to earn the win. Tkach tossed the final two with just one hit allowed to earn the save in the shutout.

In game two, Tkach gave up just two hits over 5.0 to earn the win. Zygowski gave up just one hit the rest of the way.

Offensively, Emmie Cibrario (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) had two hits against EC, three total on the day. Trinity Otto (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) had a pair of hits against Kalamazoo with two runs scored.

Cibrario hit a leadoff double in the third inning, but got only as far as third base when the inning ended.

Allie Meyers (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) began the fifth with a double. After a walk to Cibrario, pinch runner Keltie Cloud (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) scored on a fielder's choice by Sophia Heckendorf (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) to put UWSP ahead, 1-0. Maddie Candre (St. Charles, Ill./East) ripped a single through the right side to score Heckendorf for a 2-0 lead.
