STEVENS POINT, Wis. – In the first home matches since the program was reinstated, the UW-Stevens Point men's tennis team split matches on Saturday at SentryWorld. The Pointers dropped the opener to MSOE by a 6-3 score before defeating Lawrence, 9-0.
Steven Benoy (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) went 4-0 on the day winning both his No. 1 singles matches by a 6-1, 6-1 final against MSOE and a 6-4, 6-4 score versus LU. He paired with
Diego Mosquera Herrero (Madrid, Spain) to win both No. 1 doubles matches, 8-4 and 8-2, respectively on the day.
UWSP's No. 3 doubles duo of
Samuel Zapata Hernandez (Envigado, Col./Colegio Colombo Britanico) and
Dan Harris (Eau Claire, Wis./Altoona) won 8-5 and 8-3.
Against Lawrence,
Connor Paullin (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) and
Hayden Schreier (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) won at No. 2 doubles, 8-2. Paullin rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No 4 singles. Schreier won his No. 3 singles match, 6-2, 6-4.
Mosquera Herrero defeated his LU opponent at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Harris took the No. 5 singles by a 6-0, 6-1 score.
Spencer Gross (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) completed the sweep of the Vikings at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
UWSP will travel to Eau Claire on Saturday (March 18) to face Cardinal Stritch. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
