ASHLAND, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (10-11-1, 4-6-0) finished off a weekend sweep of Northland (2-19, 1, 0-9-0) with a second-straight shutout, 5-0.
Freshman
McKenna Piekarski (Anchorage, Alaska/West) scored her first career goal at 6:28 of the first period. Her eventual game-winner came off an assist from fellow Alaskan,
Molly Millar (Anchorage, Alaska/East).
Later in the first,
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron) doubled UWSP's lead with
Laina Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) picking up her fourth assist of the weekend.
A scoreless second period by both teams was quickly halted at 1:40 of the third period as
Josie Bender (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) made it 3-0.
Lauren Wincentsen (Wausau, Wis./West) provided an assist on the play.
Annika Horman (Appleton, Wis./North) and
Sara Aadalen (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) scored unassisted goals late in the third to complete the scoring.
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) needed to make just 13 saves to record the shutout. NC goaltender Teagen Johnson had 39 saves.
The Pointers return home for the final three games of the regular season. UWSP begins the homestand on Friday (Feb. 10) against UW-Superior at 7:00 p.m.
