Stanius Records Pair of Helpers for Pointers

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (10-12-1, 4-7-0) scored the first and last goals in a 3-2 defeat to visiting UW-Superior (9-13-0, 2-7-0).

The Pointers took the lead at 11:30 of the first period on a power-play goal by Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine). Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) picked up her first assist of the night on the play.

The Yellowjackets evened the game at 15:32 of the first and took the lead at 18:51 of the first period.

Neither team scored again until the final minute of the third period. The Yellowjackets got the first on an empty-net goal for a 3-1 lead.

Then with just 13.3 seconds left, Lauren Wincentsen (Wausau, Wis./West) got UWSP back within a goal. Stanius notched her second assist of the night. But a scramble along the boards salted the clock away as UWSP was unable to get a late shot on target.

Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made 26 saves in net for the Pointers. UW-Superior goaltender Rose Beeman made 38 saves.

The Pointers and Yellowjackets close out the season series on Saturday (Feb. 11). UWSP will celebrate Senior Day with a 2:00 p.m. puck drop at K.B. Willett Arena.
