STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (5-3) improved to 3-0 at home this season with a 76-67 victory over visiting North Central University (4-6).
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) tied for the game-high with 22 points, a season-high for the freshman and his second 20-point outing of the year. He went 3-for-3 from behind the arc and made 7-of-13 shots from the floor overall.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and
Jake Buchanan (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) were also in double figures with 14 and 12, respectively.
Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) added nine and
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) had eight to go with a team-high eight rebounds.
Miron hit his first three of the game to put UWSP ahead 5-2 early. Butler drilled a triple just past the midpoint of the first half as the Pointers pushed the advantage to 19-13. Miron nailed another three late and had UWSP's final eight points as the Pointers led, 37-34, at the break.
Abdul-Wahid, Miron and Krohn combined for the first seven points of the second half as UWSP vaulted ahead by 10, 44-34. Butler hit another three, but midway through, the Rams regained the lead at 56-55.
Darrius Bolden (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) and Butler each made a three-pointer in an 11-0 run by the Pointers for a 67-56 lead with four minutes to go. The Pointers made 7-of-10 free throws in the final 90 seconds to seal the victory.
The homestand continues on Monday (Dec. 18) as No. 2 Calvin comes to town for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off in Quandt Fieldhouse.
