STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 8 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (7-2-0, 4-0-0) scored three times in the third period to take a 4-2 win over UW-River Falls (4-4-0, 1-3-0) on Friday.
The Falcons took the lead at the 2:05 mark of the second period after the teams skated to a scoreless first period.
Less than two minutes later,
Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich.) pulled the Pointers even at 1-1. His third of the season was assisted on by
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) and
Sam Ayd (Grant, Minn.).
The Falcons regained the lead at 15:36 of the second period and UWSP trailed by a 2-1 score heading to the third.
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.) tied the game at 2-2 at 5:57 of the third period with a power-play tally.
Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz.) and
Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill.) added helpers on the tying goal.
Cody Moline (North Branch, Minn.) gave the Pointers the lead at 9:12 of third, the eventual game-winner.
Tyler German (Canton, Mich.) notched his first assist of the night.
Then as time was expiring, German chipped the puck ahead and fed Bunting for the empty-netter.
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) earned his fifth win of the season with 24 saves. UWRF goaltender Dean Buchholz also had 24 saves.
The Pointers travel to UW-Superior on Saturday (Dec. 2) for a 7:00 p.m. matchup to close the weekend.
