STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (1-3-0) suffered a 2-0 loss int eh home opener on Saturday night to visiting St. Catherine (2-2-0).
The teams skated to a scoreless first period with UWSP out-shooting SCU, 11-8. The tide turned in the second period with the Wildcats posting 11 shots to UWSP's four. But still neither team could light the lamp.
At the 1:12 mark of the third period, the Wildcats broke the scoreless tie. Late in the third period, SCU scored on the power play to push UWSP's deficit to 2-0.
Even with the extra attacker for the final 1:48, the Pointers were not able to solve SCU goaltender Abby Severson.

Anne Beck (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) made 26 saves in the game. Severson had 21 saves.
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) had seven of UWSP's 21 shots on goal.
The Pointers and Wildcats close out the weekend series on Sunday (Nov. 5) with a 1:00 p.m. start at K.B. Willett Arena.
