Men’s Wrestling Opens the Season at Pointer Open

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team opened the 2023-24 season at its own Pointer Open on Saturday. No team scoring was kept. Carson Trotzer (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) was the Pointers' best individual finisher taking second in the 174 bracket.
 
Results
 
Trotzer went 4-1 on the day in the 174 bracket. He began the day with a 16-1 tech fall followed by a 15-0 tech fall on the next match. In the quarterfinals, he won a 6-3 decision and won by fall in the semifinals. He took second after dropping a major decision in the final.
 
Josh Heuss (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) took fifth in the 165 bracket. He won twice by fall in his first three matches. Then he rallied for a 4-1 decision win in the fifth-place match to finish the day 3-2.
 
Mohammed Abbasov (Waukesha, Wis./South) went 3-2 on the day in the 141 bracket. He earned a win by fall and twice by decision. Easton Hall also went 3-2 on the day in the 165 bracket. His wins came by decision, tech fall and fall. Blake Flach (Shell Lake, Wis./Shell Lake) completed a 3-2 day as well with wins by major decision, decision and by tech fall.
 
Dylan Cariveau (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) won twice by fall in the 165 bracket. He pinned foes from Aurora and Carthage.
 
Greason Pankratz earned two wins, one by tech fall and another by major decision in the 141 bracket. Joey Ahern also picked up a pair of wins on the day in the 157 bracket. He had one win by fall and one by decision.
 
Aidan Fonder won a match by fall in the 125 bracket. Cooper Peterson (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) won by tech fall in his first match in the 141 bracket. In the 174 bracket, Romer Pugh (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park) and Bryce Buchanan (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) each picked up one win. Trystan Altensey (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) notched one win by tech fall in the 184 bracket.
 
The Pointers head to Indiana next Saturday (Nov. 11) for the Trine Invitational beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET.
