SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 5 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (1-1-0) was unable to hold a lead late as the homestanding Gustavus Adolphus Gusties (2-0-1) stunned the Pointers with five goals in the third period in a 6-4 final.
Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich.) gave the Pointers the lead with his first of the night just 2:47 into the game.
Gino Colangelo (Newmarket, Ont.) picked up his first collegiate point with an assist.
Brett Humberstone (Kingston, Ont.) also had an assist on the play.
The Pointers doubled the lead at 8:48 of the first.
Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz.) netted his first of the season with
Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill.) adding a helper. Late in the first, the Gusties cut the lead in half.
Midway through the second period,
Cody Moline (North Branch, Minn.) put the Pointers back in front by two goals. Colangelo added his second helper of the night and
Isaac Moberg (St. Paul, Minn.) notched his first assist of the season.
GAC pulled within one at the 6:33 mark of the third period. Minutes later, Finstrom tallied his second of the night to put the Pointers ahead 4-2. Humberstone added his second assist of the night and
Harrison Stewart (Rockford, Ill.) also had an assist on the play.
The Gusties though scored four straight over the final 10 minutes of the third period.
Ryan Maguire (Ridgefield, Conn.) made his UWSP debut in net and made 31 saves. GAC goaltender Jackson Hjelle made 19 saves.
The Pointers head to Duluth for a non-conference matchup against St. Scholastica on Saturday (Nov. 4) for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop.
