ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (3-2) earned its first road win of the season, 55-41, at Augustana (1-5) on Sunday.
Malik Abdul-Wahid (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) led all scorers with 18 points.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) was also in double figures with 15.
Abdul-Wahid scored 11 of UWSP's 12 points and the Pointers led 12-7 midway through the first half.
AJ Makinen (Waterford, Wis./Muskego) buried a three and Butler drilled a three at the buzzer as UWSP held a 27-17 lead at the half.
Cal Krohn (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) made the first bucket of the second half, but the Auggies got within five at 29-24. Butler scored four points as UWSP regained control with an 8-0 run.
Ryan Genrich (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and Butler each hit from behind the arc down the stretch. The Pointers hit 7-of-9 free throws in the final 90 seconds to secure the win.
The Pointers continue the road swing with a 3:00 p.m. game at UW-Superior on Saturday (Dec. 3).
