Ayd’s Game-Winner Lifts Pointers to Undefeated Week of League Play

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 14 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (6-2-0, 3-0-0) got a late game-winner from Sam Ayd (Grant, Minn.) for a 4-3 win over Northland (1-7-0, 0-2-0) to complete a 3-0 week of league action.
 
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) gave UWSP the lead at 11:02 of the first period on a wraparound goal. Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Michael Eftimovski (Toronto, Ont.) each registered their first assists of the season on the play. It was also the first collegiate point for Eftimovski.
 
The Lumberjacks tied the game at 1-1 at 18:09 of the first. NC took a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 3:08 of the second period.
 
Tyler German (Canton, Mich.) tied the game at 2-2 with a backhanded goal at 17:26 of the second. Bunting and Nick Gonrowski (New Hope, Minn.) got assists on the goal.
 
Eftimovski netted his first career goal at the 19:28.2 mark of the second period to give UWSP a 3-2 lead after two. German picked up his second point of the period with an assist.
 
Northland tied the game at 13:38 of the third period with a power-play goal on a 5-on-3 advantage.
 
Ayd netted the eventual game-winner when he put the pointers back in front at the 17:11 mark of the third. Bunting racked up his third assist of the night with Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) adding a helper.
 
Ryan Maguire (Ridgefield, Conn.) earned his second win in as many nights with 19 saves. Northland goaltender Viktor Wennberg had 45 saves.
 
The win was UWSP's 10th-straight at home dating back to last season.
 
The Pointers are back in action on Friday, Dec. 1 with a 7:00 p.m. home game against UW-River Falls.
