STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (3-5-0, 0-2-0) held a lead after one, but fell to visiting UW-Superior (3-3-1, 1-1-1) by a 5-1 final on Saturday.
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) gave the Pointers a 1-0 lead at the 7:01 mark of the first period. Her team-leading fifth of the season was assisted on by
Annika Horman (Appleton, Wis./North).
The Pointers 1-0 lead evaporated as UW-Superior scored twice in second period at 5:06 and 9:45.
The third period saw the Yellowjackets add goals at 3:12, at 11:42 on the power-play and at 15:56 with an empty-netter.
The Pointers recorded a season-high 39 shots on goal, but UW-Superior goaltender Rose Beeman stopped 37 for the win. UWSP goaltender
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) had 24 saves.
Lauren Wincentsen (Wausau, Wis./West) led UWSP with eight shots n goal.
Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) had seven and Leising added five.
The Pointers are back at home on Tuesday (Nov. 21) with a 7:00 p.m. matchup against Saint Mary's at K.B. Willett Arena.
