DULUTH, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (3-0) jumped ahead 27-9 after the first quarter and cruised to a 77-62 win at St. Scholastica (1-2) on Saturday.
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) posted her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) led the Pointers in scoring with 17 points.
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) was also in double figures with 10 points.
Nies and Pfiefer had five points each as UWSP began the game with a 14-0 run.
Courtney Krueger (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) completed an and-one and
Emily Mortenson (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) buried a three to push the lead to 20-4.
Katelyn Slowik (Elcho, Wis./Elcho) drilled a three and scored the final five points of the quarter as UWSP led, 27-9, after one.
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin),
Abbie Campion (Janesville, Wis./Milton) and
Rachel Hagen (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) all made layups in the second quarter. Mortenson nailed her second three of the game ant he halftime lead was 45-32.
Nies had four early points in the third. Thomson added a pair of buckets and the Pointers held a 60-43 advantage after three.
Thomson, Pfeifer, Nies and Gawlitta each made a field goal in the fourth.
Lily Truchon (Herbster, Wis./South Shore) made a free throw in the final minute for her first collegiate point.
The Pointers continue the road trip on Tuesday (Nov. 21) with a 6:30 p.m. game at Lakeland.
