PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team improved to 4-0 to begin the season with a 57-48 win at Lakeland (2-2) on Tuesday.
Jamie Pfiefer posted her second-straight double-double, feat she had achieved by halftime. She ended up with 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
Three other Pointers were in double figures with
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and
Courtney Krueger (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) both racked up a game-high 13 points.
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) added 10 points. Gawlitta added nine rebounds to narrowly miss her own double-double.
Pfeifer scored UWSP's first four points and a Krueger basket gave the Pointers a 6-5 edge. Thomson and Krueger buried consecutive threes as the Pointers used a 12-0 run for a 16-5. The Muskies scored the final six points of the quarter, but UWSP held a 16-11 lead after one.
Thomson scored five-straight as the Pointers opened the second quarter with an 11-0 run to pull ahead 27-11.
Ava Loftus (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) buried a three and the UWSP lead was 36-20 at the break. Pfeifer had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds by halftime.
Gawlitta scored six early points and a bucket by Krueger saw UWSP up 46-23. Krueger and
Kelly McIntyre (Waukesha, Wis./North) had baskets as UWSP led 50-28 heading to the fourth.
Gawlitta had the first five points of the fourth for UWSP. Krueger hit a pair of free throws late to seal the win.
The Pointers travel to Ripon on Wednesday (Nov. 29) for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference tip-off.
